Check your downloads folder (My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2 > Downloads) to see if anything's there - if it is, move it to the desktop temporarily and test your game. If the crashing stops, then it was a piece of custom content.

My sims 2 crashes ALL the time, but there's a way to make it crash less frequently. The problem is caused probably because the sims 2 takes so much space on your hard drive, and if you play it for too long the hard drive becomes overwhelmed...

1/2 hours until I decided to build. I stil can't do that, but I think the fact I only have 256M of ram has something to do with that. Anyway, right click on your Sims 2 shortcut and click on Properties. ... Yes, my driver is all updated. Still crashing and freezing for no reason :(;
