The Algorithm Killed Jeeves
"The Algorithm" refers to the search technology that powers Ask.com. This technology was developed by Rutgers University Professor Apostolos Gerasoulis and provides more relevant search results by identifying experts in specific subjects rather than relying simply on link popularity.
The mention of the word "algorithm" still makes me think of Google, despite Ask's attempt to rid itself of the cuddly butler mascot, and assume an aura of technological sophistication. The Unabomber: wasn't he somebody back in the 1990s?

Since we first covered the Ask Algorithm campaign May 4, IAC has committed $100 million to expanding the Crispin, ... Geesh, people, the unabomber was anti-technology, remember? Poor taste aside, now do you all get it? Mentioning other “terrorists” would not be consistent with the message, such as it is.

There’s no official word on how much the Crispin, Porter + Bogusky designed campaign costs, but it would be fair to presume that it’s not small change: Algorithm and “Information Revolution” advertising has been spotted on both sides of the United States and throughout the United Kingdom.

One that stood out is "The unabomber hates the algorithm." I don't know why he would; did the FBI search the term "unabomber" on ask.com and find his home page?? ("Johnson's in charge now." "Not anymore I'm not!");

No, it wasn't the traction-from-tragedy hook of the frame reading "THE UNABOMBER HATES THE ALGORITHM" that got my goat (though that's pretty nasty in inself, and is drawing criticism), it's the ... I am sure you have seen some of these ads yourself. But one of the ads being discussed is the ad named "The Unabomber Hates The Algorithm." The ad looks like this:

There’s another that says the algorithm is banned in China, and another that says Jersey is from Rutgers or something like that ... May be there is an algorithm, when put in Ask search engine, would spit out a job offer right on your screen.
