External cephalic version is a way to try to turn a baby from breech position to vertex (head-down) position while it's still in the mother's uterus. In other words, external cephalic version means turning the baby from outside of the abdomen so that it's in the head-down position.

Cesareans do increase the risk of complications for the mother and the baby, so the benefit of the procedure should outweigh the risk. I would personally try the version, and a few of the exercises for turning a breech baby before I would schedule a cesarean.

The first is for turning a breech vertex. It should also work for a transverse. However, it is difficult to do, and should only be done until you have the baby turned. The second is for turning posterior to anterior, and it quite a bit easier.
