Turritella Agate is from a silicated sedimentary layer that contains fossil shells of gastropods. Although this material is called "turritella" agate, the shells are most likely from the gastropod Goniobasis. Either way, Turritella Agate is a very cool material that cuts interesting gems.

Turritella agate slabs, fossil slabs ... Turritella agate from WY, is actually a misidentification of Goniobasis, a similar fossilized spiral snail shell and these gastropods are up to 1 1/2" long. The name of turritella is more commonly known and is easier to pronounce then Goniobasis.
