Twins and Multiple Birth ... I had an ultrasound done at 7 weeks exactly... it looked like one baby but after we have looked carefully we think there might be another one because ... The songographer was completely surprised-she said after 24 years of doing it she has never missed seeing a twin.....it definitely happens!!!!

While you may have heard anecdotally of twins missed on ultrasound, experts agree that in modern uses of either vaginal or transabdominal ultrasound such an occurrence would be extremely unlikely.

What I want to know, is it possible that the first doctor missed the twin and the other two techs didn't see one as they thought that there was no need to look for one? Could I have a second baby hiding in there and it not have been seen? ... i am having twins. they knew at 5 weeks. you could not miss them on every ultrasound.

We found out we were having twins at 6 weeks and 5 days. I am not sure if they could have missed it at your 6 week ultrasound. I just know that we had two egg sacks and two heart beats at our first ultrasound.

Next in thread: William F. von Almen, II, MD, FACOG: "Re: Can twins be missed at an 8 week ultrasound?" ... Is it possible that twins could be missed at an 8 week ultrasound? The technician only saw one heartbeat at the time. Is it at all possible that one was hiding and could not be detected?
