When we began work on our 65 there was some rust under the undercoating in places. Luckily it wasn't bad and it didnt need to have sheel metal replaced. The rust was there though. ... I plan to repair my bad rust, then wire wheel the entire underside, spray a rust encapsulator, prime then coat w/ flat black and call it good.

Looks good for awhile. Then it cracks and allows water underneath. Then the undercoating will hold water against the metal. Undercoating is not your friend long term. You are way, way better to pressure wash underneath, ... Needless to say I went with Rust Check..I found it dripped but not quite as bad / much as Krown.

I live in MN so I think it's a good idea to protect the underside of the car from all that winter road salt. Do most people get undercoating nowadays? Is $300 a fair price? Thanks for any replies.

The after-manufacture undercoating also helped quiet some of the road noise. Sometime in the late 70s, partly in responses to growing complaints of premature rusting in new cars, automakers found new technologies that would make it possible to greatly reduce the normal tendency of steel and sheet metal to rust.
