1.4 Production and uses Acrylamide is produced commercially by the catalytic hydration of acrylonitrile. The most common catalysts are copper-based; other inorganic catalysts include manganese, rhodium and cobalt compounds and, recently, biocatalytic systems have been used for large-scale production.

Acrylamide is used to stabilise soil and is used in sand to help keep free sand able to flow, so can fit moulds. It is used as a coating on many household appliences and car parts with thermosetting acrylics.
