As if that isn't strange enough, Giant Vinegaroons do not have stingers, they have long whip-like tails that do not sting at all. Sometimes people mistake them for insects because it looks like they have 6 legs and a pair of antennae, but actually, the "antennae" located in the front are just long, modified legs.

I got these on Friday and I love them! I've always wanted some vinegaroons, aka whipscorpions (though they're not actually scorpions). The whip scorpions, or vinegaroons, often are thought to be deadly—they are not. They might give a good pinch and an odor of acetic acid, otherwise known as vinegar, but that is a long way from deadly. The "whip" that gives the whip scorpions their common name, is sensory in nature, not a defensive organ.

They are called vinegaroons because they can emit acetic acid (a main component of vinegar) from the base of the tail. This is used as a defense against predators. They are also called whip-scorpions because of the thin tail.
