Nasty Army Acronyms, Profanity in WWII- ... The reason being is that Part Five has one effectively simple, yet controversial, title: "FUBAR." This was an army acronym for "F***ed Up Beyond All Repair" that was used by soldiers and commanders when things were (unsurprisingly) going wrong beyond comprehension.

Fubar is slang (mangled German) for the word "Furchtbar" which means terrible or horrible -- Think of it as the opposite of "Wunderbar." Furcht means fear, literally translated, and the "bar" is added to make it an adverb or noun, as the case may be.
