:-( I am going to a wake this wednesday. I was wondering if it's apropriate to bring some food there, or should that be reserved for the gathering after the actual funeral, which I don't know about the plans for that yet.

Today, most wakes are from 2-9pm. That is a long time to stand and greet visitors. In the wakes that I have been to in the past years, all of the immediate family sits in the front rows. It would also depend on how many people are coming to the wake.
