Washer drain overflows Plumbing ... Hello, My problem is that my washer drain overflows during drain down of washer water. It appears to be a 1 1/2" line and is shared with dishwasher and kitchen sink. There is a crawl space under laundry room and trap is located below floor in crawl space area.

You did not say what brand of washer but washers have to drain at a certain rate, if the drain overflows there is something wrong with the pipe that needs to be addressed. Perhaps it is not big enough in diameter or there are bends in it somewhere.

recently it has gotten to the point where the draining water (near the end of the rinse) backs up the pipe and overflows just a bit on to the floor. unfortunately it is wrecking the ... After it's working again go to Wal-Mart and buy a mesh strainer that fits over the washer drain hose. This will help prevent future clogs.

vent lines, air vent, soap scum: Hi Jim, Hmmmm, tough one! ... It must tie into the "built into the wall" style 2 inch washer drain line because when it backs up from the washer, it also goes into the kitchen sick. I have checked the air vent on the roof, it is clean. I have snaked 25 feet into the wall under the kitchen sink.
