The snake, incidentally, was a cottonmouth water moccasin. Its scientific name is Agkistrodon piscivorous conanti. Known to be an aggressive snake, it is found throughout Florida, with a range extending north to Virginia and west to Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.
