Absolutely! Who says you can't wear black to a wedding? The only color you should stay away from is white so as not to "show up" the bride. I think about 90% of the weddings I've been to (and I've been to A LOT), I've worn some sort of black cocktail dress. Especially to evening weddings that are a bit more...

Usually, afternoon weddings don't require attire that is as formal as that worn at an evening event. Also consider whether the wedding will be outdoors or inside. Yes, it is okay, but only if it is an evening wedding or a black and white wedding. Other than the options in the previous sentence, I do not suggest that you wear black. Most brides and families view the color black to represent death.
