I wasn’t really heading for Iquitos. Like most tourists who visit Peru my primary target was Cuzco and the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

Expect no privacy (rooms are built in a long barn like construction they are divided into private twins & are segregated by four, 8 feet walls but they have no ceilings & are open up ... Don't let the fact that Iquitos sounds like Mosquitos put you off - this is a great jump off point for trips into the Amazonian jungle.
