What causes radioactivity? ... How is radioactivity measured? ... Radioactivity is a physical, not a biological, phenomenon. Simply stated, the radioactivity of a sample can be measured by counting how many atoms are spontaneously decaying each second. This can be done with instruments designed to detect the particular type...

Radioactivity is the spontaneous disintegration of atomic nuclei. The nucleus emits particles, ß particles, or electromagnetic rays during this process. ... Ionizing radiation causes physical damage to cells and DNA. Ionizing radiation has energy that results in the formation of excited molecules. This radiation can...

I understand Jupiter is not dense enough to walk around on, and that it has a deadly radioactivity about it. That doesn't seem reasonable to me, because it's too far from the Sun. How do you account for this? Is the radioactivity stable, or does it fluctuate?

Low Level Radioactivity and Cancer ... Most of these claims suffer from a fatal weakness, and that weakness is that there is almost no radioactivity in the environment from nuclear power plants and similar facilities. Nuclear installations are relatively clean installations when judged by any reasonable standard.
