I never use wood shavings for birds under 2 weeks. Too much chance they'll accidentally eat them and get blocked up. ... It is very important for goslings to have good footing right after they hatch. They are prone to a condition called splay-leg, or spraddle legs, as they are quite unsteady for the first couple of days.

The little ones are going to nap, cuddle in the feathers of their new mom, and whisper sweet nothings to her. Momma might eat the baby food, (which has extra protien in it) but put it in separate dishes. The water pan should not be taller than the goslings' legs.

They can be turned outside at an earlier age depending on the weather. Goslings love to eat grass and weeds and will begin grazing as soon as they are turned out. Do not let baby ducks and goslings out on a pond as they will drown, since they don't have a mother to get them off the pond.

The goslings eat and poop copiously, but in less than a year they require very little and produce a lot less excrement. They are very loving and loyal. It truly upsets me that people are "managing the Canada goose population" by rounding them up and sending these birds to meat packing plants.
