Cotton is probably too under-dressed but a formal is too over-dressed, although I have seen women wearing them. I think as long as you wear a dress with some heels you should be okay. I went in a pair of nice pants and top and I was fine.

Many (most?) people are watching other people. (What else is there to do during the intermission, and before the concert starts?) ; Personally, I find jeans rather insulting at concerts. Yes, people wear them. ... People drag their teenagers to the symphony and the teenagers are dressed like the death-metal potheads they are.

What should I wear?; Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Contrary to what many people think, formal attire – such as tuxedos and evening gowns – are not required at Symphony concerts. In fact, most people only wear formal clothing to our Opening Night Gala.
