To remove defects any sort of magnet has left on your screen.. If you truly want to test it, get a magnet, put it against your monitor and watch what happens.. Degauss is suppose to remove it.

The tighter tolerances for all this is what drives the price of a Really Good monitor up so high. And of course, the closer to the ragged edge ... The 'degauss' circuit in your monitor sends a burst of energy across the mask, and hopefully de-magnetizes it. Many modern monitors automatically degauss when you turn them on.

You need to degauss. Click the button on your monitor to get the lil settings menu up. Look for a magnet icon or some option called ''Degauss''. Your monitor will reset. It usually happens when something emitting a magnetic field (i.e. a cell phone) gets too close to your monitor.
