The cell membrane is immediately highly permeable to glutaraldehyde. Selective permeability to ions is lost during fixation. Ionic equilibrium is obtained only after a few hours. An optimum fixation technique for shape preservation is suggested.

You could not appreciate cell viability after fixation. It is unclear if you lyse red blodd cells or not. If not, you must do it. Try formol (1% in PBS), it works well for a 3 to 4 days delay. For more, try Stabilcyte from BioE.
