Remote login in DOS Emu ... So, I went to the slackware site and downloaded the actualy 2.3.2-7 glibc tgz file that was meant for Slackware. That one took a while with installpkg, but installed without a hitch.

Not sure how this corresponds to using a remote login, but I assume it's not 3-byte unicode. There are some other commands for viewing/changing keycodes - getkeycodes, setkeycodes, and showkey (and others, I'm sure), but these are really meant for the local console.
