What is the purpose of the windows prefetch file, and can i remove the items to reduce bloatware. If i do this is there any danger of it seriously affecting my computer ... To view the contents of your prefetch folder, you only need to open to it. You can follow the path outlined earlier to view the prefetch folder. You can use Date Created or Modified fields to attempt to figure out how old each prefetch file is, this may help you determine what can be deleted and what you may want to keep.

What is a prefetch file? Windows XP Help and Support ... "recent" files and the only consequence is you don't have them appear in the list of recently opened documents when you use File Open; Thanks;

It was suggested that I delete everything in the ; C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch file to correct some possile problems. Would that create any additional problems and what does this folder do? Thanks, Chuck...

Any command imbedded here will open when any exe file is executed. Look for anything other than "\"%1\" %*", ... I think it loaded this program into the Prefetch directory as a way to speed up the load process for pdf files (at least I'm guessing). So I deleted these two files out of Start Menu and rebooted and they are gone.
