davidpozzi was correct in indicating that the difference between a 396 and a 427 is BORE and difference between 396/427 and 454 is BORE and STROKE.

I always thought that the bigger the stroke, the bigger the torque, but lower the max rpms. I'm sure there are other variables but what would be the performance difference between the stock stroke 85mm bore 772cc, +4 stroker 82.5mm bore 770cc, and the +5mm stroke 82mm bore 771cc?

I was wondering what the difference between big black and small block is. I figure it has to to w/cylinder size and stoke, but i'm not exactly sure. I was told my straight six is a big block. another question i have has to do w/engine balance. ... Bore or stroke mean nothing when talking about sb or bb. I just go off what I...

No, the compression ratio (CR) is not the difference between bore and stroke. It's the proportion between the minimum and maximum volume in the cylinder, hence ratio. ... To calculate the new CR, you'll need to do the math with the new bore diameter, new deck height and piston crown volume in the equation.

Within the general limits of production V-8 car engines produced from WWII to about 1995 or so, I think that Bore/Stroke ratio is overemphasized. Look at the difference between Buick 455 and Olds 455 engines: Buick has 4.32 bore and 3.9 stroke.

Torque-wise there are no difference between the two types of engines. ... Bore, Stroke, Rod Length, Cylinder Arrangment(ie stroke angle), Induction Type, Head Design, Cam Profile, Compression Ration, etc, etc , and etc. There are WAY to many engineering factors to take into account. This is a horrible question.

Does anyone know what the differences between the b16b block and the b18c5 block are? ... Quick question about Rod/Stroke Ratios. I don't really understand exactly what it is, I heard that boring out a B16B to 85mm would yield the perfect rod/stroke ratio for a motor. I'm guessing its just a ratios of the bore/stroke?
