The physical characteristic is the most telling difference between the cow and the ox- oxen have horns. I stood under some of them to get a picture and they were huge!

An ox, to early American farmers who used the beast, was a mature castrated male belonging to the domestic cattle family, or genus Bos, most likely trained (like draft horses, some never got trained) to work, and at the end of its life inevitably used for meat.

I believe the horn is either cow or ox. Is there any way to tell the difference between the two, ie, general color, shape, size, etc? I know many things can be done to change any one or all of these, but, this horn hasn't been heavily worked;
