If the idler pulley does not function properly, it can result in a loose belt that slips or fails to turn the drum at all. Also, the pulley wheel itself can make a squealing noise as result of a failed bearing.

Hello, I need to know how to replace the idler pulley wheel on a Maytag Performa dryer (PYET244AYW). Two weeks ago the drum stopped turning. The motor was running but no turning of the drum. After replacing the belt, I turned the drum to make sure it was on properly but it kept slipping off the idler pulley wheel.

The idler is usually nearer the crank pulley, although its function is similar with that of the belt tensioner-to keep the proper tension in the belt and take up any slack. In case you're having troubles with your stock pulley, you definitely need a 4-Seasons acc.
