Lysosomes: Lysosomes (common in animal cells but rare in plant cells) contain hydrolytic enzymes necessary for intracellular digestion. In white blood cells that eat bacteria, lysosome contents are carefully released into the vacuole around the bacteria and serve to ... Return to; Animal Cell Archive; Plant Cell Archive...

Vesicle (biology) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A vesicle is a small bubble of liquid within a cell. More technically, a vesicle is a small, intracellular, membrane-enclosed sac that stores or transports substances within a cell. Vesicles form na...

It is not correct, but to understand basic cell concepts without confusing science terms, a vesicle could be called an animal vacuole without harming the important ideas being taught. Animal vacuoles are not plant vacuoles so a distinction is made, but this is not really correct.

Studies on the functional roles of analogous plant proteins are emerging. We report here that a tobacco ... Subsequent interactions between vesicle and target SNARE proteins result in membrane fusion and the delivery of cargo molecules to the target compartment or to the cell surface (Sanderfoot and Raikhel, 1999 ;

The SNARE hypothesis offers a widely accepted explanation of the mechanism of specificity in vesicle targeting (Söllner et al., ... For this purpose the coding sequences of AtVTI1a or AtVTI1b were cloned into a multicopy yeast expression vector behind the ADH1 promoter. In yeast the VTI1 gene is essential for cell growth.

Plant cell wall (CW) synthesizing enzymes can be divided into the glycan (i.e. cellulose and callose) synthases, which are multimembrane spanning proteins located at the plasma membrane, and the glycosyltransferases (GTs), which are Golgi localized single membrane spanning proteins, believed to participate in the...

Peroxisomes play key roles in energy metabolism, cell signaling, and plant development. A better understanding of these important functions will be achieved with a more ... Within the plant cell, energy metabolism is mainly distributed among three distinct organelles: plastids, mitochondria, and peroxisomes.
