Like every amphitheatre, the Colosseum had two entrances to the arena on the main axis: the NW gate should be the porta triumphalis, where the gladiators made their entrance during the pompa gladiatoria; the SE gate was the porta libitinensis (from Libitina, a Roman goddess of death, corpses and funerals).
