Though the Greensboro sit-ins had been temporarily discontinued, the idea had spread to other students across the state. Over the next week, sit-ins occurred in the North Carolina cities of Winston-Salem, Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte, Fayetteville, High Point, Elizabeth City and Concord.

April 19th 1960 was a turning point in the history of the sit-ins. To start with, a bomb partly destroyed the home of a black lawyer – Alexander Looby - who had defended many of the students who had been arrested during the sit-ins.
