Billabong International started at the kitchen table in Gordon and Rena Merchant's small, rented apartment on the Gold Coast of Australia. In 1973, the husband and wife team began to sew and sell knee length Board shorts designed for the rigors of surfing.

We, Chris & K.T. Myles, started our "around the world" adventure on December 18, 2003 from Ventura, California. Over 27,000 nautical miles, 24 countries, 2,018 days (5-1/2 yrs), and 20,000+ photos later we decided it a family. With mixed feelings we have ended our cruise (in Turkey) and sold our trusty yacht, Billabong.

The 2009 Billabong Junior Series started in Scottburgh (8-11 April) and continued with the inaugural Billabong Occy Grom Comp in Jeffreys Bay (9-15 July). The series concluded at Victoria Bay (23-26 September) where the series champions were crowned for the 13th time.

I roomed with one of the guys who started Billabong in Costa Mesa, Tom Fletcher. We surfed Newport and Hunington Beach, and the River Jetty where we lived for nine months while attending UCI. He was always a good surfer and had a head for business.
