Mien people originated in China, until they were forced to leave and separate. There were conflicts in China, and Mien people came as refugees to Southeast Asia. Miens settled in places like Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.

Man-made ponds may be responsible for widespread arsenic contamination of ground water affecting millions of people in Bangladesh, a new study says. According to the journal "Nature Geoscience", the ponds have become a dumping ground for debris which releases arsenic into ground water.

I first learned of the Iu Mien while I was trekking in the mountains of northern Thailand when I came upon Iu Mien villages in 1978. The Iu Mien or Yao originated from China. At one time they were probably a large independent kingdom, but seemed to have gotten dispersed ... Thank you for documenting Mien people in America.
