eastern Connecticut, I have found that fishing with night crawlers enables me to target trout, bass, white and yellow perch, bullhead, suckers, carp, and bluegills. Ever since I was old enough for him to take me fishing, using night crawlers as bait was what my father always went in for.

As with most panfish white perch will eat whatever food is available and in large quantities. In brackish and saltwater areas, this would include small crustaceans, small forage fish, insects and their larvae, as well as my favorite bait for perch, small grass shrimp.

At sundown the white perch may be found on the sunny side of the stream, or lake, and will then bite with the same eagerness as in the morning. His bite is different from that of the ordinary yellow perch, as when he gets hold of the bait he drags the float under and keeps it there.

American Eels also frequent the brackish water areas of the rivers, but most would not be able to take the hook for white perch, so the eels have a tendency to nibble on the bait when the perch are not around. White Perch also make an excellent "live" bait for stripers.

Ask bait shops where they can be found. Then rig up an ... Cheney - Here's a little advice to those fishermen who've been complaining about the White Perch in Cheney. Take some home and fry them up. They are delicious. I figured that since they look so much like a White Bass, They would probably taste like one too.
