I had mentioned them to my primary care doctor and also, I think, my dentist -- but not knowing these were an actual medical phenomenon, whatever I said ("Well, see, I cough up these little white things and they smell bad...") apparently didn't ring any bells.

I had the very same thing except not all the time, mine would come out of my tonsils, I could even push on my enlarged tonsils and the white stuff would come out like a zit. ... I also suffer from those stinky white things on my tonsils. I was told when you have reocurrent sore throats and tonsilitis that your tonsils develope holes in them. The food you eat and bacteria produce this cheese-like substance that stays there if not scraped off.

I just went to the ear, nose, and throat dr. to find out what those white, smelly things are on my tonsils. She told me they were a build-up of food debris caught in the crevices of my tonsils and there was nothing that could be done (other than remove my tonsils).
