Although the aforementioned games were both Japanese designs, Atari Coin-Op created quite a few hits on its own. Missile Command, Centipede, Battlezone and Tempest were some of their more successful games. Some of these were later ported to both the videogame and the computer game environments.

NOLAN Bushnell created the Atari Corp. in 1972 and in 1976 sold the seminal video game firm for $28 million to Warner Communications (where it became a $2 billion company). One of Bushnell's Atari employees, Steve Jobs, offered him a one-third stake in what became Apple Computers Inc.

The consumer division of Atari did not exist at this point. A small group of us brought Pong to market as Atari's consumer division was built. Gene Lipkin was the Coin-Op Marketing VP, of course Joe Keenan (Nolan's ex-next door neighbor) was President.
