The North American counterpart of the War of the Austrian Succession, fought 1743-48. Both the British and French, with their native allies, undertook bloody border raids, but the was was inconclusive. The New England colonists captured Louisburg, which was returned to France by the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle.
