It was the hindus(aryans) who were the innovators ... Babylonian astronomers did have a symbol for zero, as it happens, and seem to have invented it independently. So did the Maya. I'm sorry if it seems somehow disappointing to hear zero has been invented by a number of different people, but that's reality for you.
