My 6 week old seems to make a lot of grunting noises, and not just when passing gas ... My 5 week old does the exact same thing. He makes funny noises even when he is sleeping. They are usually a little louder when he is passing gas or having a bowel movement. Everyone tells me it's normal for babies to make these noises.

What I didn't understand, though, is that babies make sounds in their sleep. And these sounds do not mean that baby needs you. Babies moan, grunt, snuffle, whimper, and even cry in their sleep. Babies can even nurse in their sleep.
