Note to the neaon owner: That is a poor design and typical of squeaking. Reasons for brake squeak other than poor design may include: brake dust built up in rear drums, brake warning sensors as mentioned (fyi-rarely are rotors worth saving)...

The front brakes are usually a couple of pads that grip a metal ... Just generally. And they why do they squeak for a while and then stop over time?
