If there really isn't a relationship with the iron levels, it may certainly be the fact that the rings react to specific types of makeup - I have not seen a black mark left on a man's face yet.

I have 4 gold rings...3 are 14kt and not sure of the other...was a gift and it doesn't have its weight stamped on the inside. When doing the makeup test the 3 leave a black mark on palm, the other one leaves no mark at all.

But, when I wear my 14K and 10k gold rings they leave green-black marks on my fingers and I could make a black-green mark also on my hand which did not have any makeup traces on it..

Q - Why do my 14K gold rings sometimes leave black/dark marks on my fingers? I clean them regularly and wash my hands before putting them on? ... Black marks can be removed quite easily. Try a silver cloth first although this is more for light tarnish and dirt. You will probably have better results from silver wadding...

If you can do this right after you notice a black skin mark from gold jewelry, it would be extremely helpful to give a direction in which to go. ...
