Why not take it one step further and ask 'Why do humans need to exist?' all your arguments still hold. ... Plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, anything that you can think of that can be classified as living tries to procreate. You're talking about the end of man, not just some old people having miserable elderly years.

OK, now that we've got that on the table why else are we here? ... Putting aside the need for humans to procreate, I can't help but wonder: are we creating a social system to communicate with each other at a distance because the reality of creating and maintaining that social networking face-to-face is, well, scary?

Most adult humans can procreate, and hence potentially have a child. They have one half the cells to make this possible, all they need is to combine it with the other gamete and the potential becomes an actual (at some point in the fetal development).
