You probably have drum brakes in the rear. Factory setup will have them extra tight. It should be broke in and the squeek gone by 10,000 miles. If not, have the dealer look at it under warranty.

Are they just squeaking or squealing and is the noise from the front or back? Your brakes shouldn't make any noise at all but there can be a number of reason for them doing so. The front brakes are usually a couple of pads that grip a metal ... Just generally. And they why do they squeak for a while and then stop over time?

Volkswagen Enthusiast Discussion Forums ... I used to work at a vw dealer and ALL the VW brakes squeak! It's a combination of brake dust and condensation on the rotors. The new brake pads that are used these days are metallic, therefore the dust is metallic.
