People are not usually comfortable in unfamiliar situations. Stereotypes provide a little bit more familiarity. Or they give a person a perspective on something sometimes negative, sometimes positive.

What is so sad, is that people stereotype without even thinking about it, as though it were the most natural thing on earth. I fight with my own prejudices and attitudes, but if the opportunity presents itself to learn more, I would rather take such an opportunity rather than continue to remain ignorant.
