Basically, two or more solutions are combined resulting in a reaction that produces an insoluble product, a precipitate. Typically, these types of reactions involve ionic compounds in aqueous solution. The precipitation reaction is said to occur ... These ions combine and fall out of solution in the formation of a solid...

PRECIPITATE The insoluble solid formed when either two liquids react together or a gas reacts with a liquid. eg Carbon dioxide reacts with limewater to form a white precipitate of calcium carbonate. ... SOLUTE The SOLID that has been dissolved to make a solution. eg When salt is dissolved in water then the salt is the...

I call the third stage Precipitate because of a memory from chemistry class. One experiment in the lab consisted of mixing a solution of silver nitrate with a solution of sodium chloride—two liquids. Lo and behold, out fell a solid ... This was an "aha!" moment for me: Combining two liquids can make a solid!

The excess sodium acetate should precipitate out as the water cools, turning back into solid crystals. But it won't do so without a trigger. In most hand warmers, that comes from a small piece of metal inside, but even a mote of dust could set it off. ... Connect with MAKE...

Interesting point of view, Xraspecs - 'no one can predict what will happen, therefore everything will be ok' - combining fatalism and optimism in an argument for inaction that could actually precipitate the crisis.

Why isn't it solid?; ... When it's done, press all the air out of the KOH bag and tie it closed with two knots of the cord. Make sure all the filled HDPE containers are properly closed. Take your hands out of the gloves, cut the knots closing the big bag, take out all the HDPE bottles, the scissors and the remaining cord.
