His reasons for killing Claudius change as well, and when he gets the perfect opportunity to avenge his father he decides to wait, and do it at some other, more opportune time. The real reason, as Ernest Jones writes, is that Hamlet has deep, repressed, feelings about killing the man who replaced his father.

When he killedmy father without him being able to be freed of his sins. This would not be revenge it would been more like being hired to kill someone. It would have been better if iwouldn’t have put it off for so long but I have serious problems with talking myself out of doing what I need to.

There are many different reasons why Hamlet must avenge the death of his father the late King Hamlet. The aspect of justice versus revenge is a prominent theme throughout the Hamlet would only be giving Clauduis what he deserves. If murder were justifiable in some severe cases then why did he wait for so long?
