For babies 0-3 months old, constipation is rare, even if your baby is formula-fed. Some babies grunt and strain with every movement, although it's not necessarily constipation. Still, if your baby cries or looks uncomfortable, check with your doctor.

Something you never considered: they grunt to open the air sacs in the lungs periodically. This is the baby equivalent of a sigh. During quiet, shallow respiration, many of the tiny air sacs in the lung (the alveoli) collapse due to the normal surface tension in the lungs.

Is it normal for a baby to have this much gas?! It makes her strain and cry a lot. She seems to be getting enough food, as she's putting on weight and I always try to bring some wind up after feeding. Anyone else experiencing this?
