yea i just wanna no y it does is there something i ... This is the force that causes some objects to float in water. Suppose you want to dissolve 1 cubic cm of oil in water. For this to happen, the oil has to displace 1 cubic cm of water. The buoyancy force on the oil is equal to the weight of that 1 cubic cm of water.

Why does oil float to the top in liquid if you try to mix it with the liquid? Asked by: Rachel Ginsberg; Answer; I think there are 2 questions here. The first is why oil and water don't mix. The second is why oil rises, as opposed to sinking or staying in place.

Thus oil floats on water. Also the density is a factor here. Oil should be less dense than water than in order for it to float on water. If it was heavier than water, it might be floating at the bottom.LOL....

I have wondered for a long time: why does oil float on water? It is denser than water as is iron, lead etc. Then why? Does it have anything to do with solubility or miscibility? ... And what exactly is the relation between density and the upthrust force IF the upthrust force is responsible for casuing something to float or sink?
