Even many adults do not realize that the moon is often visible in the daytime. The moon is visible sometime during the day for most of the month, except near new moon, and right at full moon. This is a good short project for the whole class since you take the children outside for a little while.

Q: Why do we see the moon during the day? ... An exactly Full Moon is invisible (or at least not easily seen) during the day because then the Moon is opposite the Sun with the Earth in between. The Full Moon sets when the Sun rises (except near the poles) so we can't see the Moon during the day.

The answer to your question has two parts: why is the moon VISIBLE during the day, and why is it even ABOVE THE HORIZON during daylight hours. The answer to the first question is easy: you can see the moon even against the blue backdrop of the daytime sky, because the moon is very BRIGHT!
