In a fixed-wing aircraft, the spar is often the main structural member of the wing, running spanwise at right angles (or thereabouts depending on wing sweep) to the fuselage. The spar carries flight...

Re: wing spar design ... The book Low Power Laminar Technology by Alex Strognic has an example calculation for a spar about the size of your design. He uses 2024 angle bonded to plywood web. I would not use bonding, rivet instead. But the calculation is helpful.

In a simple open-bay wing, the spar structure of each bay can be slightly different. While it may not be worth the trouble to optimise the design out to the wing tip, significant improvements can be gained by focusing on a few bays closest to the root, easily doubling the load the wings can support.

When I went about designing the wing spar for the Genesis 2, I tried to find design strength values for the carbon rovings to be used in the spar caps, The manufacturer's data sheet claimed 310,000 psi tensile strength but gave no compression data.

Recent studies showed that performance of an aircraft could be considerably improved by adaptively varying the torsional load carrying capacity of the wing spar. Hence, design concepts for adaptively varying the torsional stiffness of an aircraft wing spar were studied.
