If you're connecting the iPod to a Windows laptop computer through USB, connect the laptop to a power outlet before connecting your iPod. Also, see iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB to be sure that your USB ports are supplying enough power.

Now onto the problem: Whenever I plug in my iPod, I get an odd session of pop-ups. First it says that its a USB Memory Device. Then it says its an unknown device, followed by a "device installed" message. Right after that, I get a "USB Device has malfunctioned ... Ipod Problem- Usb Device Not Recognized, No answer so far...

Device Failure! USB Device Not Recognized, etc.!!!! I had finally figured out the problem – the proprietary connector end of the USB cable that comes with the iPod Nano isn’t very good at getting a solid connection.

#176233 - 12/20/06 08:47 PM USB Device Not Recognized (Malfunction) ... Will no longer recognize Ipod, Coby, or Sony digital camera. Tried all the tricks too. HP online chat support said I should update the ATI chipset driver. That didn't work. Will try again today in "safe" mode.

Error message usb device not recognized; USB 2.0 Flashdisk Device not recognized.; San Disk USB Mini-Drive ... i bought an ipod nano, downloaded itunes and uploaded all my songs and as soon as I tried to copy them to my ipod i got the same message about the USB cable not being recognised and that it had malfunctioned.
