SGI-USA (Soka Gakkai International) is a community of believers in America who practice the teachings of Nichiren, a thirteenth century priest from Japan, whose philosophy is based on the Lotus Sutra. The Lotus Sutra is one of the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, which forms the basis of Mayahana School of Buddhism.
