The impact breccia page ... A breccia is a clastic sedimentary rock composed of angular clasts in a consolidated matrix. Breccias can be produced in several geologic processes: tectonic breccia, volcanic breccia (eruption breccia, vent breccia), sedimentary breccia (e.g., rock fall breccia), collapse breccia (e.g.,

Breccia is one of the major types of sedimentary rocks. ... Breccia is a rock made of smaller rocks, like conglomerate. But breccia contains sharp, broken clasts while conglomerate has smooth, round clasts. (more below)

Breccia can be found at several places in Egypt (Gebel Matma and Gebel Mudilla, north of Minya; Wadi Rokham, Tahta, Issawia, Abydos, Gebel Abu Had, Gebel el-Serei, Gebel Aras, Wadi Ain, west of Esna). The material is very common for vessels and other small objects in the predynastic period.

In some breccias the fragments can be seen to match along their opposed sides, indicating only modest disturbance. Structure: Bedding not usual, though in some types of breccia bedding is apparent in the matrix. Fossils rare.

; Because the composition of this rock is dominantly quartz one might be inclined to call its QFL quartz. Technically, however, the breccia fragments are quartzite, a metamorphic rock. Therefore, we classify this as a lithic breccia.
