Prized for its ornamental value more widely than for its fruit, the calamondin was formerly identified as Citrus mitis Blanco (syn. C. microcarpa Bunge); more recently in Citrus circles, erroneously, as C. madurensis Lour.;

The calamondin is a small, slightly oblate fruit, generally not over 1.5 inches in diameter, with a deep orange color. The tree is relatively hardy for a citrus and may reach 20 feet in height. It is rather widely grown as an ornamental.
